Micropigmentation, or the craft of cosmetic tattooing, is a cosmetic procedure practiced since ancient times. Although the craft of tattooing was founded somewhere around the height of the Stone Age (3000 BC), the first records of micropigmentation date back to the reign of Queen Cleopatra (51 BC – 30 BC). At that time, micropigmentation, or cosmetic tattooing, was used strictly as a procedure to correct birth defects of the eyebrows, but not for beautifying purposes, as it is today.

In its early days, micropigmentation was carried out using cotton buds and natural dyes. Nowadays, tools and working methods are of course much more sophisticated, safer and technologically advanced.
